How was your FCBD event? We opened the store too late in 2013, so this will be our first and we are really excited about it. Already planning the events.
What did you like about the Retailer Summit? We are hoping to attend our first this year in Las Vegas.
What aspect of your store are you most proud? Our inviting atmosphere and open floor plan.
We are trying to be a little different than the other comic shops.
What do you do that is innovative within your store? In the winter months we sell hot chocolate for $1 and if you buy one of the many mugs
we stock and bring it into the store, you get a punch card for 10 free hot chocolates.
We also produce MTG grab bags and insert gift certificates in random bags and
we have a retro video game room with arcade style games.
What has been your best in-store promotion? One is our back issue sale, but maybe the best has been our buy 1 used video game get another at 40% off.
We also had a superhero in the store posing for pictures and signing autographs for our grand opening which was very popular.
What has been your best out-of-store or cross-promotion? Facebook, by a wide margin.
What recent changes have you made to your store? We opened up our back room to add gaming space including the retro video games.
We are in the process of changing from the QuickBooks POS system to Comic Suite.
What are your plans for the near future? We are going to go more aggressively into manga and add War Machine events.
How did you choose your store name? Christopher’s last name is DiaZ. Plus, it is easy to remember, sounds a little like DC and provides for an easy logo.
