GTM #118 - Arcane Legions: Register for Fun!

Minotaur Logo Anubis

Arcane Legions has been taking the gaming world by storm and the launch party events in retail stores across the world have sparked major excitement. Have no fear, there’s a lot more to come from Wells Expeditions, and we’re here to give you the inside scoop on Arcane Legions Organized Play.

November is going to be an exciting time to be running and playing events in your local retail store. Players across the globe have been submitting scenarios for the past few weeks and we have chosen our favorites to post on ArcaneLegions.com. Along with these player-created scenarios will also be cool new terrain posted weekly—download them while you can because when they’re gone, they’re gone!

Wells Expeditions wanted to bring the gaming community a game for the players, by the players. How many other companies allow you to create your own tournament-legal units? In November we will be releasing three “test” unit cards that will be available ONLY through your retailer. These test unit cards will showcase and test some of the cool new features from set two, Dawn of Valor. Players can playtest a new unit card each week to really take part in creating the next expansion.

Officially beginning in December, the Arcane Legions League will consist of 12 campaigns a year (one per month). Each campaign is packed out in an Arcane Legions League Kit, which includes everything a retailer or game club needs to run that month’s events:

  • 3 “Scenario Bundles” that include:
  • 8 identical League Boosters (retail for $6 each)
  • 1 scenario rules sheet
  • Paper terrain sheets
  • 1 scenario winner banner/flag per scenario
  • Campaign League awards:
  • 1 Champion of Han banner/flag
  • 1 Champion of Rome banner/flag
  • 1 Champion of Egypt banner/flag
  • 1 Grand Champion banner/flag
  • Discretionary Award: 1 Chalice banner/flag

We know that December is a rather hectic month for stores, so the first League Kit will include only one scenario instead of the usual three.

Booster

The eight identical Boosters (which correspond to the scenario being played and retail for $6 each) include:

  • 4 prepainted 25mm figures (one per faction and one mercenary figure from set one)
  • 3 formation unit cards
  • 1 victory card
  • 1 participation banner/flag

We wanted to continue our “for the player” philosophy through our League system as well. Because retailers and game clubs know their players best, we created a system that will allow you to run events as you choose. Leagues consist of scenario battles AND standard battlesFlags(your regular 7,000-point games). When you register the League online you can select how many of each type of battle will be played during the League period.

Only players who have registered at Arcane Legions.com can win League prizes. And trust us: you don’t want to miss out on them — just look how cool they are! Players are responsible for entering their own battle results. Battle results are considered “official” only after two people enter the same result into the website. The only people who can enter a battle’s results are the two people who played the battle and the store’s or club’s League organizer.

In addition to the weekly scenario winners, best of faction, and overall winner, there is also a Discretionary Award. The Discretionary Award can be used as you see fit, for example, as a good fellowship prize, as an award for best-painted army, or as a prize for any additional Arcane Legions event you run. The banner/flags do not affect game play; they are just visual reminders of a player’s battlefield prowess.

Be sure to talk to your retailer or game club manager TODAY and ask that they participate in Arcane Legions Organized Play. To the battlefield—let the mass action fun begin!
